Weeks #12 & #13

Missed a week but I was still painting and/or building the entire time. So heres what I got done:

First up is a negavolt cultist. A bit of a shockey boy. I liked how the green tesla stuff came out on him.

Here he is from the other side.

Next up is one of those new D&D mini's a drider in this case. I just thought it looked good and at $5 it was a steal so I bought it. Preprimed and everything.

His armor is purple though its a bit hard to tell in the photo its much more obvious in person.

I looked up a color scheme and found this one for a "yellow garden spider" and thought it looked good so I used that.

Next I drew one of my classic Chaos Warrior minis so I decided to try some experimentation on him. I attempted to do a molten axe effect reminiscent of the Sharpened Volcano Fragment from TF2

I think it turned out alright and I even attempted some OSL on it but I think that turned out less okay. I still got 4 more of these guys to practice on as I run into them.

Next I returned to praising the Emperor with Taddeus the Purifier. He was pretty funt o paint I like his little gun servoskull.

So I learned later that his ornate armor is all gold int he official color scheme but I thought it was part of his robes so I painted it as such. Tbh I think that ends up looking better the gold on the white rather than all gold. Makes the filigree really pop.

And that was it for week #12 now onto #13

I have a lot less painted this week for two major reasons. The first is this:

I finally drew my Zombie Dragon from the pile. I thought it might be a quick paint but I decided to take more time with him. Hes been sitting on my desk for over a year now I thought it was worth making sure he got a good paint job.

I struggled with color a lot on him. Not sure whether to do the spine a bone color or to change the wings to a leathery tan/brown or use such a color for the skin or even a sickly blue instead. In the end I used Sotek green for the scales (the color I will use for other undead coming up to give them a uniform look) and a sickly green for the flesh to really hit home the zombie-ness of the dragon. Then washed it all in Biel-tan green

Here he is from the front and with a human-sized mini for scale. Hes not super massive tbh but he does get quite a bit of height from the terrain hes perched on.

Finally I have Espern Lucarno, a name I constantly get wrong. Hes a navigator a sort of psychic who helps... well navigate ships through the warp. He likes to hit people with his walking stick and has the most impressive hat of the Blackstone Fortress Explorers imo. Even better than Taddeus' pope hat.

I like the color scheme I used for him a lot. Unfortunately I endup using a bit too many layers on the cape and lost a bit of detail but washes helped bring it back somewhat. Overall still looks good.

I also built a bunch of models. Here from left to right we have:

Death Jester: an excellent and fun model but... holy hell GW why did you build his collar that way. His right arm is attached to his gun and goes under the collar. His left arm is attached to the collar and attaches to the gun, this means you effectively have to put both arms on at the same time in the most awkward way possible that feels like you're going to break the model. I read online how a lot of people simply cut the collar in two and then fixed it later.

Tech Priest: So I want to run an actual Admech army to ally with my Genestealer Cult considering Typhons background being that he took over a cult by dissecting a patriarch. So he'd obviously have minions from before he went full rogue and thus a small renegade admech force to accompany him seems plausible. I've already got ~5 rangers and ~5 vanguard (might need more not sure if they need units of 10 or not) and a dunecrawler but I needed an HQ. Obviously any HQ for this need to be lower ranked than a Tech Priest Dominus (I should check to see if a dominus can be subservient to another dominus) so my HQ choice was a simple tech priest. And I went with the old metal model because I liked it tbh. Overall I plan to run no more than a patrol detachment of Admech at any time since Typhon isn't getting reinforcements from them anytime soon and must make do with what he has (or steals). The cult however is growing.

Eldrad: Finally the big Eldar himself. The king of dickery Eldrad Ulthran. Hes a cool guy and a really impressive model. Hes big for an eldar. Maybe its just the base and massive flowing cape but hes imposing all around. I'm going to take time to think about how I want to paint him.

Next is a Deathwatch Kill Team. This is a group of xenos hunters made up of every space marine chapter. I decided to make my kill team 9 strong with 1 from each loyalist chapter.

Left to right:

Iron Hands (Deathwatch Shotgun): Kinda drew the short straw as there was no tech-marine bits in the set.
Imperial Fists (Heavy Bolter): Made sense the boys in yellow would get the big bolter weapon. Hes the heavy marine.
Salamanders (that fancy deathwatch grenade launcher): Its a really impressive grenade launcher/flamer so the salamander made sense to get it. Hes also the demolitions marine.
Ultramarine (Xenophase blade & Storm Shield): Being the leader I gave him equipment to lead from the front and show his brothers the power of the codex astartes. rethinking it I should have maybe given him a storm shield+bolter in some form, oh well.
Dark Angel: Power Maul & Combi-Plasma. Hes also the comms operator (because ofc he is)

The final four are vanguard veterans. Again left to right:

Space Wolf: Hes headless here because I want to see if I can get a proper space wolf head for him. Something rugged and bearded or with a big mohawk. Not sure yet. hes armed with a power axe & storm shield and I believe is the combat veteran.

Blood Angel: Armed with a storm shield and Relic Blade hes ready to dive headlong itno the enemy. He has the leader character because I feel BA's are also leadership material marines. Normally you can't take a Vanguard Veteran Sergeant in a Deathwatch kill team... but I'm ignoring that because its stupid.

White Scars: Just a power Sword & Storm shield make him not as dangerous but he has the veteran specialism allowing him to get right up into the enemies face early on, and with a Storm shield he will hopefully prove very hard to remove.

Raven Guard: Armed with the classic dual lightning claws and a beakie helmet hes a Zealot to make use of that +1 S so he can hit on 3's, wound on 3's rerolling with AP -2 (I think?) He should be a very dangerous foe. His lack of Storm Shield does make him easier to kill so I'll need to be stealthy with him.

Finally I build up a necromancer and her retinue. These will be painted in a similar scheme to the Zombie Dragon (using Sotek green for robes, cloth and shields). Personally I adore the little Skeleton Cat Familiar she came with. The Necromancer is a Dark Sword mini the rest are from GW

Week #11

Hello Everyone and heres what I did this week!

First I painted a Chaos Space Marine from the Blackstone Fortress set. I painted them up in Word Bearers colors so that I may spread the truth of the Imperial Lie.

The red & silver give a really good look together. Along with the green eyes. Normally I come up with my own scheme but this looks great.

Next we have another Beastman, this one in a running pose (although sharing the held aloft chainsword of his twin). This model is also from Blackstone Fortress

From the back you can see his grenades and bags and ponytail.

This is Rein from Blackstone Fortress. A ratling (halfling) explorer, deserter and general criminal. He has a fucking grappling hook.

And from the back you can see more of his bag and his grappling hook.

Next is Reins's brother Raus. A ratling sniper withs ome sick goggles.

On his back he again carries his supplies this time he has a minifridge to keep snacks in though.

And both of the twins together.

And all four Minis together.

ADditionally I put together some rocky crags to act as terrain following a tutorial on Wyloch's Armory. I cut myself open doing this but was successful making them in the end. I think in the future I will use 1" foam instead of 2".

week #10

Alright here we go

First I painted up a traitor guardsmen from Blackstone Fortress. One of the many villains you face. I painted them up in some Word Bearer colors because if I ever to chaos marines I'll probably play Word Bearers.

After him is one of the Beastmen in the same color scheme.

Next is one of the explorers in Blackstone Fortress UR-025. An 'imperial robot' and definitely not one of the sentient 'men of iron' partially responsible for the fall of humanity 20,000 years ago.

I like painting him up but went with a grey color scheme instead of the standard white hes usually painted in. Overall I think he looks good.

Dahyak Grekh is the next explorer. A kroot mercenary and the only one without a secret agenda. Because while no-one believes him his goal actually is "fight for money". (and eat those he kills to enhance his strength)

I painted his cloak in a purple to match my T'au army (Kroot are common allies to the T'au). All four miniatures had their bases sanded then painted with a dark grey and 2 washes of black wash which dulled it dramatically before I applied a gloss varnish. The goal was a glassy obsidian look which is best exemplified oh Dahyaks base.

I need to get a mroe flat black backdrope, this one reflects too much. Overall I enjoy painting these mini's a lot. They have a ton of character and are just super fun. Luckily Blackstone fortress came with a total of 44 models so this is only 1/11 of the total.

Week #9

Hello Everyone. Don't have much to show off today since I ended spending most of the week cleaning and I'm not even done yet. But heres what I did:

I primed all my Blackstone fortress models and some others so that I'm good and ready to paint them when I want to.

I built a couple ogres as well. The treasure hunter and ninja maneasters. (There was still some flash in this picture that I think has been since removed)

And the Ninja, I used balsa wood for the base this time. So much easier to work with over Popsicle sticks.

Got to play 3 games of Zombicide on Thursday. We lost every single one. Game is hard.

A grand doggo.
